NOTE:

I am fully aware that a passage which might support the Blessed Hope in my view may not at all support it in your view and vice versa. It all depends on our underlying paradigms. The views we have inherited about ultimate reality, in particular, how God deals in judgment with human beings in the life to come, will undoubtedly affect how we interpret the entirety of the Scriptures, and needless to say, especially those relative to God’s judgment.

The above list is far from exhaustive. In fact, if you consider those which include additional references which are noted only in parentheses, you can imagine how long this list could be. I am presenting these numerous passages to show that my hope is solidly anchored in the Scriptures. Lord willing, and as time allows, I hope to add additional passages in the future on our website.

Along with the Scriptures, there other factors that have convinced me of the truth these texts allude to. Those factors consist of reason, conscience, and experience which are elaborated on elsewhere. These are all valid reasons when combined with the Biblical evidence.

May God guide you into all His truth as you seek Him with your whole heart.

Jonah chapter 4. Johah is angry because God has had mercy on the people of Ninevah. The last verse is God’s own testimony of His grace toward all.

    Young’s Literal Translation
and having bowed the knees, he cried with a loud voice, ‘Lord, mayest thou not lay to them this sin;’ and this having said, he fell asleep. Acts 7:60

In the last seconds of his life on earth, Stephen sees a vision of Jesus at the right hand of the Father. Closer to the Father than he has ever been, he repeats the prayer of Jesus on the cross to forgive those who were killing him. In both cases, the murderers were not repentant, did not ask for forgiveness, and (at the time) were not believers in Jesus, the Savior of all men. Granting Stephen this great vision, the Holy Spirit must have been with him and inspired this prayer of forgiveness – for nothing is impossible with God. Why would Jesus and Stephen say this prayer if their murderers would eventually suffer eternal conscious torment, rendering their prayers ineffective and meaningless? The prayers were from the heart of the Father, effective and full of meaning in light of the infinite merits of the blood of Jesus, shed for all men. Eventually, in due time, they knew that their killers would also bow their knees and proclaim the great truth, “Jesus is Lord”.

Jeremiah 15:19 jumped off the page, yesterday, in the Morning Reading from Daily Light on the Daily Path (Bagster). “If you take out the precious from the vile….” (NKJV) It reminded me of a song my dad used to sing, about being drawn out of the mirey clay. That’s what Jesus does – we are precious in His sight, and He will not leave us swallowed up by the vile curse of sin and death. A second thought, since the passage is related to speaking, bearing witness to the total victory of Jesus over all creation is also taking out the precious from the vile pollutions that have contaminated the gospel message.

According to Hebrews 3:16-19, All of the rebellious and unbelieving Israelites (20 and under) fell in the wilderness and, thus, were not permitted to enter the “Promised Land.” Many exegetes of scripture have taught that the Promised Land is, in fact, a biblical type of heaven, i.e., eternal life. But it must not be forgotten that Moses, their leader, also fell with the others in the wilderness because of his personal sin and, thus, was not permitted to “enter into His rest.” Nontheless, eventually Moses appears with Christ on the Mount of Transfiguation (in the Promised Land!) – see Luke 9:28-31).

Application: Though God had sworn that they (including Moses) “would never enter His rest” (Heb 3:18), yet , in the spirit of new covenant grace, and with the glorified Christ standing at his side, Moses is allowed to enter the “Promised Land” at last. God will always find a way to get sinners into the “Promised Land,” — even the likes of us!

if Moses “didn’t make it in” please explain this text which ranks Moses right up there with Elijah:
“…and was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light and behold, there appeared unto them MOSES and Elias talking with Him…” (Matthew 17 and also see Mark 9)

Ezekial 34:11 “For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep.”

Not only will we always be comforted and protected, but we will be sought out, searched for, time and time again! What a loving Father we have, who cloaks us in his care for all eternity!

    Ro 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: (KJV)

Ro 3:22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (NIV)

”And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely” Revelation 22:17. The book of Revelation is a book about the past, present, and future. The Spirit of course is Jesus Christ and the bride is the church in the present and the glorified church in the future. Revelation 22:17 is an invitation to come to Christ now and in the future. There is no expiration date on this invitation because the water of life is inside New Jerusalem and the gates of this city are always open(Revelation 21:25) just like the doors of the church are always open today. Also the word of God(Rev 22:17) endures always(1Peter 1:24-25). Now who is this invitation for? It’s not for the church, because the Spirit and the bride(the church who are believers) are proclaming this invitation together. And the church(believers) are inside the city and have already taken the water of life. So the invitation must be for those on the ”outside” of the city. And whose on the ”outside” of the city?—The unbelievers(Revelation 21:8; Revelation 22:14). Since there is no expiration date on this invitation, the invitation will continue for as long as there is someone in need of this water. So praise God—UNBELIEVERS CAN REPENT AND COME TO CHRIST AFTER DEATH!!! Jesus Christ truly is The Savior of the world. Blessings.

    Brother,

Not a verse yet so very true:

The only thing we can control is our attitude…everything else is up to God! (regarding the religious myth of free will)

God’s will will never take you where His grace is not sufficient! (concerning trials and tribulations)

    Peace and grace

Within the past week I saw that Psalm 1:6 shows that God is not calling for the wicked to perish, but for their ‘way of life’ to be changed or obliterated.
Psa 1:6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the WAY of the wicked will perish.

Amoung all the Scriptures that you have listed in your Appendix 1 (which themselves are overwhelming proof that God will ultimately save all), there are many which clearly teach that there is a conscious literal Hell, where God punishes those who have practiced sinfulness, evils, and wickedness for a finite period of time to purge away their sinfulness and turn them back to their Creator. Christ himself said, “they shall not be released until they have paid the uttermost farthing.” If you will check–the words purge, purged, purging, refine, refined, etc.–in a good concordance, you will find several Scriptures (in the Old Testament, especially), which prove that Hell has a Divine purpose in removing sinfullness and evils–not for punishing creatures forever!

I don’t know how those who study God’s Word thoroughly can come to a conclusion that there is no Hell at all. The site of “Tentmaker.org” seems to have links of some contributors who profess this “no hell at all” (maybe, soul sleep?) doctrine. I’m not sure what the founder of the site, Gary Amirault, believes about this; but there is too much Biblical evidence that Hell is a place of conscious (but, finite) punishment for the reasons listed in the paragraph above. Nearly all of the ancient and primative Church Fathers, who expounded on the Biblical subject, agreed that Hell has the purpose of purging away evils and wickedness. Some of the articles and books listed on “Tentmaker” write extensively and concur with what the primitive and orthodox Church Fathers taught on the subject. Having said all that, there are many good books or articles listed on the site with many Scriptures proving that God will ultimately save all of His fallen creation–the final universal reconciliation. A few examples are: “150 reasons for believing in the final salvation of all mankind” by Erasmus Manford, “100 Scriptural proofs that Jesus Christ is the Savior of all mankind” by Thomas Whitmore, “Universalism (is not in the Bible?”), not sure of author–maybe Gary Amirault, but this article lists very many Old and New Testament passages and verses with commentaries on many of them.

    HI Gerry,

Here are a few verses which have comforted me. You’re free to use as many of them as you like. The first one is from Chapter 6 of your book …

Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now,for you shall laugh (Luke 6:20-21)

Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. (Rev. 22:14)

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come” (Rev. 22:17)

May God bless you and all of your efforts to communicate the true gospel. I hope to be able to do more of this myself after the nest is empty, and I retire and have more time.
